Simulation of Adhesive bonded lap shear strength

      Hi everyone.

I am searching for tutorial simulation of adhesive bonded lap shear strength using Cohesive zone modeling. However, i didn't find any complete tutorial regarding lap shear strength (in ansys workbench) whereas found many on the same subject performed in Abacus with detail. Can someone please guide and share the active links. Moreover, my second question is that how i can simulate the above mentioned test with different thickness of adhesives (Araldite 2031-1) while using seperation distance theory. Thanks.

      Hi,

Ansys Mechanical, adhesives can be modeled using CZM, where the interface material bonding the two bulk materials is modeled as a cohesive zone.

For failure study, CZM is suitable, and if you have only shear stress and shear strain data for the adhesive, you can calculate the shear modulus and determine the tensile modulus from the isotropic elasticity relation. You may refer the below link for some related discussion.

A bilinear traction separation law can be used , the properties of which could be defined in Engineering Data.

Please let me know if this helps.

      Thank you

      Aurojyoti.
