Shape Memory Alloy Analysis

      Hi,

I am looking to model a Shape Memory Alloy wire, to find the Force requried for a deformation of 4mm on a 0.51x100mm wire. I have been following a guide online, but when I have thought I have followed the guide I am getting errors. I believe it is when I am creating the material as when I assign Steel the simulation runs.

I have just used a Static Structual analysis, with a displacement at one end, fixed support at the other and set a displacement of 4mm over 4 steps.

I have attached an image of the material setup and the errors I am receiving, any help would be appreciated.

      Hi Tom,

The problem is most likely related to the parameters used to define the shape memory alloy. Please check the shape memory alloy parameters given in the post below to verify if you're still seeing the error message:

      Thank you Armin,

I have been through this post and tried the same parameters stated, but I am still getting the same error message saying it is not able to converge.

It seems the person posting originally did not have their question fully answered, and I believe I am at the same stage as them.

      Thanks Tom.

I tried to re-produce a similar model to the one you described (just scaled down the wire length and applied displacement by 1/4 to save time).
I used the same material properties as the ones in the mentioned forum post. I was able to a get a converged solution. I added a few screenshots below, so hopefully they help you to resolve the issue.
