SubscriberHello,
I am trying to run HFSS using the Remote License Manager on a server at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). However, I encounter some errors and cannot run the simulations on the remote server. I suspect it's a license problem. I was wondering if the license that you kindly provide to universities includes the RMS feature or not.
Best regards,

Ansys EmployeeHi Saeid,
I see you are able to resolve the IP for server hostname and ICMP traffic is allowed.
The error you are referencing indicates either AnsoftRSMService is not installed, not running, or firewalls blocking the TCP port 32958.
Before proceeding:
1. Are you attempting to submit to a Linux scheduler environment? (SLURM, UGE, PBS, LSF)?
2. Are you attempting to solve on multiple stand-alone computers?
3. What is the OS of your client?Â
4. What is the OS of the remote solving machine(s)?
5. Do you have access to the remote solving machine?
thanks

Ansys EmployeeHello , If you are using a scheduler like slurm etc, follow the earlier post from Randy
If you are not using a scheduler then the below applies, otherwise ignore the below please- have Ansoftrsmservice engine up and runningÂ
see RSM on
page number 3-4 to page number 3-11 for windows guide https://support.ansys.com/Components/DownloadFile?file=/Secure/DownloadAssets/2024R1/AnsysEMInstallGuide-Windows.pdf
of page 3-7 to page 3-8Â to page for linux https://support.ansys.com/Components/DownloadFile?file=/Secure/DownloadAssets/2024R1/AnsysEMInstallGuide-Linux.pdf#page=21 - also register engines with ansoftrsmservice per stepsÂ
on page number 3-11 in windows guide
on page number 3-10 for linux guide above - also ensure firewalls are not blocking port 32958Â
chck with firewall administrator. for linux ephemeral port range may also need to be opened
- have Ansoftrsmservice engine up and runningÂ

SubscriberHello Randy and Mangesh,
I followed the steps in the user guide. My computer and the server OS are both Windows. I have access to the remote computer and I am not using a scheduler environment (SLURM, UGE, PBS, LSF). I just want to use RSM to run the simulation on the remote computer. I used the Test machine in HPC option, the test is successful now but I still cannot use the RSM. Please see the attached screen images.
I see a license error showing my hostname, but I have a license to run the simulation on both the local and remote server. I was wondering how I can solve this error.
Thank you,
Saeid

Ansys EmployeeHi Saeid,
Make sure each involved computer can resolve the IP of the other involved computers.
ex: 'ping saeid_surface' from desktop-njrebou  should respond successfully.Â
Your screenshot shows 2 solver engines running.Â
That is one limitation with AnsoftRSMService, it has no scheduling capabilities and all jobs are run simultaniously. Â
This could result in resource contention / solver failures.
Consider a 3rd party scheduler to avoid this situation.
Another item with Ansoftrsmservice, the solvers will run as the owner of the RSM service
-- Ansoftrsmservice is usually run as 'Local Service' user
-- To run solvers as a specified user, you would set the user/pass/domain in:Â AEDT: Tools->Options->General Options->Remote Analysis (tab) -

Ansys EmployeeHi Saeid,
Great news, glad to see progress.
Please open a CMD and run these two bolded commands:
type "C:\Program Files\AnsysEM\Shared Files\Licensing\ansyslmd.ini"
-- take the port@server from the output of previous and correct the highlighted in this command
"C:\Program Files\AnsysEM\v232\Win64\licensingclient\winx64\lmutil.exe" lmstat -i -c 1055@LicenseServerName  | findstr "anshpc"
You will see either "anshpc"Â or "anshpc_pack"Â referenced -- based on your prior test, I'm assuming "anshpc_pack"
In AEDT's HPC and Analysis Options menu -- select "options" tab
-- Change the HPC License type to Pack (if you have anshpc_pack licensing)
-- Change the HPC License type to Pool (if you have anshpc licensing) -

SubscriberHi Randy,
I can run my simulation through RSM with less than 4 cores and it works., but when I increase the number of cores to more than 4 (e.g 20), I get this error message.

Ansys EmployeeHi Saeid,
I don't see the error message. Please copy/paste the text from the error.
Also, I don't recall the output from the lmutil test.thanks

SubscriberIt has been the best decision for me to use my academic license to get my cheap dissertation. My scholastic experience has been much easier due to the constant information, software, and tools that are available. Besides, it is a perfect way to cut expenses, especially while working on something like my dissertation.Â
