Rigid Dynamics and Magnetostatic Studies

      Hi All,

I am fairly fresh to ANSYS and I would like to know how to conduct a rigid dynamics and magnetostatic study simultaneously within ANSYS.

The general principal is that the assembly has 4 springs with magnets fixed at either end and when the springs are compressed due to a force applied the magnets fixed at either end repel each other.

The output ideally should be a force vs displacement curve.

      Thanks in advance.

Please reply with an image of the mechanism inserted into the post.

If you want a Force vs Displacement curve, that might best be done in a Static Structural model, not Rigid Dynamics.

Do you have all the magnetic properties of the materials involved in the magnetic model?

      Hi Peter,

I have attached some photos of the system in its ideal start and end position.

Yes i do have the magnetic properties.

      This is the assembly start:

This is the compressed end point:

      Thank you

Have you solved the magnetostatic model to obtain the magnetic force as a function of position of the small plates?  If so, you can insert a COMBIN39 spring and program it with the magnetic force vs displacement data to simulate the magnetic force in this mechanism.  You could then simulate the rest of the mechanism in a Static Structural analysis. I don't know if this COMBIN39 nonlinear spring works in the Rigid Dynamics solver. It does work in the Transient Dynamics solver.
