SubscriberHai,
Iam writing to seek your assistance to complete my thesis work on utlimate strength analysis of a ship.I have modelled a ship with stiffeners and plates in ANSYS design modeler and i have done the finite element analysis. Now as a last step of my project work i have to calculate ultimate bending moment acting on the ship. It is calculated from the bending moment-curvature diagram. I don't know how to obtain the bending moment-curvature relationship from ANSYS.Â
I have read so many journals and in that they have applied an end rotation or bendin angle to the ship and then measuring the corresponding bending moment. I don't know how to do this analysis.Â
How to apply the rotation angle incrementally in a ship? and how to obtain the corresponding bending moment from ANSYS?Â
I have done a global FE analysis. I have to cut a particular portion from the entire ship and then measuring this bending moment.
Kindly help me to solve this problem so that i can complete my project work on time.
Thanks in advance.Â

Ansys EmployeeOne possibility is to constrain the cross-section of the ship with a remote displacement/rotation. The reaction forces for the remote displacement would include the moment. In general, it's not easy to get the moment on a cross-section through a model.

Hia,
Thank you for your response. I have tried the moment reaction as you have suggested. But by changing the remote displacement the moment reaction is not changing.Â
I have an equation to find out the bending moment if i know equivalent stress. But do you have any idea on how to apply end rotation to a ship model incrementally to obtain equivalent stress?
Finally i have to find out the ultimate moment acting on a ship through non-linear finite element analysis.Iam looking for a chart like this
Kindly help me to solve this problem.
