Regarding Sweep and Optimization.

I've created a structure in solidworks and upload it into the fdtd by STL file. Now I want to optimize the a layer in the fdtd using sweep and optimize option. But I've found some difficulties because fdtd doesn't readout the STL structure. Plz give me a solution. How can I solve this problem and optimize the structure.

Hello, geometries from STL files are imported as "planar solid" objects: Planar solid - Simulation Object – Ansys Optics. You can modify these objects through script by changing the location of the vertices directly, but this is generally not very practical.

If you would like to perform parameter sweeps or optimizations it is best to use the built-in geometry objects, or geometries from the Object Library (Object Library in FDTD and MODE – Ansys Optics). It is much easier to define parameterized geometries with these objects that can be used by the sweep and optimization features. I would recommend using these objects if you are running parameter sweeps or optimizations. Using geometries from importing STL files is only really practical if you don't plan on changing them.
