We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Question About Phase and Transmission Calculation in Metaatom Simulation

      Dear Lumerical Community,

I'm simulating the modulation of metaatoms and using the official example "Small-Scale Metalens – Field Propagation" (https://optics.ansys.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042097313-Small-Scale-Metalens-Field-Propagation). I noticed that when calculating the phase, we use "pinch(angle(S.S21_Gn))". However, when calculating the transmission, we use "pinch(T.T_Gn)" rather than "pinch(abs(S.S21_Gn))^2".

I did some tests and found that the transmission results sometimes differ significantly. Does anyone know if there might be an error in my understanding, or is it a numerical error? Which method is more reliable?

      Thanks!
