SubscriberI have a mulit-channel component where I want to optimize some parameters like gap and length simultaneously, to obtain a a certain amout of power P_A, and P_B from two of the ports A, B.
I am choosing these as parameters and defining FOM=(|S_{A}|^2 - P_A)^2+(|S_{B}|^2 - P_B)^2. Is this a correct approach? Can we do optimization on gap and length for this FOM in this case? Results do not make sense at all. -

Ansys EmployeeHi,
You can use this approach in PSO. It is important to note that PSO can only optimize single valued objective functions, so it won't work if you have a broadband source. Unless you average over a wavelength range, or find another way to combine the results from a range of wavelength.
I would like to add that PSO is not highly effective for multi-objective, multi-parameter optimizations. You can increase the number of members/generation size to scan a larger parameter space. But a lot of the times we recommed using more powerful optimization algorithms within Python/MATLAB for these cases.Â
