Plugin error unable to attach geometry

I am working in a Digital manufacturing lab at my school as an intern for the summer. I'm new to this field and was wondering what is the best file to use in ansys workbench to do some analysis on a part that was created. when I bring in a file it says unable to attach geometry. the part was created in solid works then imported into Materialize magics, and then checked for errors and then exported as an igs file format then when brought into workbench 19.1 it says that unable to attach geometry and no bodies found plugin error. please if anyone can help me with this problem. Or what about an stl file could you use that type of file after converting into a solid and if so what is the best way to do this.

Try exporting a Parasolid or a STEP file from Materialize. Start Workbench, add a Static Structural system, right click Geometry cell and say New DesignModeler. When DesignModeler opens, use File > Import External Geometry File and point to the Parasolid file.  Then close DesignModeler and open Model and it should show up.

I'm pretty sure Materialise Magics works with stl files, so you might be better exporting the STEP file direct from Solidworks and then checking/cleaning up in either SpaceClaim or DesignModeler.

There are alternative routes to work with stl if that's preferred, but this depends on which ANSYS product you ultimately want to use.

      Hello,

While installing workbench please select solidworks interface. Please select reader mode.

Once workbench is installed, you can use CAD configuration manager to set solidworks reader mode.

Once this is set, you can directly import solidworks file in workbench.

As far as I know materialize works with stl. So when you export iges from it, it may export each individual facet as face.

      Regards,
