Path is too long (Save as)

rhel 7.6, ansys 19.1 and 19.3 have this issue. when attempting to save an hfss project a dialog box appears saying :

      Can't access this folder.

      Path is too long.

Works fine for root user, normal users who have their home space nfs mounted are seeing this error, the path to the user folder is rather standard and ansys saved projects go into /home/domain/username/Ansoft.

After the error message is displayed there appears to be a application exception (says a core dump is made but im not seeing it) and application exits abruptly.

      Hi Kawaja,

Please try setting the temp directory to /tmp, and the working directory for the project to /tmp.

Then try saving the project to /tmp as well.

Additionally please post a screenshot of the permissions for each directory in the tree down to the username.

      Thank you,

      Jake

I'm guessing that "normal" users do not have access to list the names of directories in the root directory containing the home directories, is that correct?

      Thank you,

      Jake

ya, /tmp works fine for non root user.

      /home/domain is 751 permission (rwx-r-x---x)

so non root users can execute the folder (to traverse it) just not read it.

      /home/domain/username is 700 (rwx

      )

      Hi Kawaja,

Just as a test can you set up a directory with a 700 subdirectory for a particular user, and verify that it still fails using that location.

(essentially replicating the /home directory structure)

Then on the root of the home directory adjust permissions to be r-x for "other" and see if that makes a difference.

      Thank you,

      Jake

So, adding the read attribute to allow for the users (either by group or everyone) on the /home/domain folder does in fact allow the application to function normally.  I prefer to keep listings of 2000+ usernames hidden from regular users, security thing...if you cannot go into a folder no point showing it. Can i suggest that the developers remove this unnecessary requirement when the user has full access to the folder they are working inside of? In this case its /home/domain/username/Ansoft which is the default. Having the execute permission allowed is quite enough since no one ever needs to write or even read the /home/domain subfolder.

      Thanks for your time.

      Hi kawaja,

Thank you for testing that.  Development is aware of the issue and is being considered for future updates of the software.

      Thank you,

      Jake
