nonlinear optical effects

      Dear Zemax Support,

I am currently working on a project that involves simulating optical elements such as lenses, mirrors, and prisms, along with a dye that changes the frequency of the light beam through the phenomenon of Two-Photon Absorption.

I would like to know if Zemax is capable of simulating such nonlinear optical effects, specifically the Two-Photon Absorption process. Additionally, I would like to inquire if the student version of Zemax is sufficient to carry out these simulations, or if there are any limitations I should be aware of.

Could you also provide me with the appropriate email address to which I can send these and any further questions?

      Thank you for your assistance.

      Hello,

The easiest way to model this would be to use the non-sequential mode of OpticStudio and use the “Volume Physics” options. From simple waveshift to complete fluorescence models, you have various available options.
Yet non-sequential mode is not available in the free student version of OpticStudio.
You can find all relevant information regarding the limitations of this free version on this link:
Ansys Zemax OpticStudio Student | Free Software Download

For convenience, let me copy/paste them here:

      • Non-sequential mode is not supported: no support for non-sequential ray tracing or any non-sequential features
      • Programming functionality (ZPL, ZOS-API, User Defined DLLs) is not supported
      • STAR is not supported
      • Optimization limitations:
        • Contrast Optimization and High-Yield Optimization are not supported
        • Global Optimization is not supported
        • Hammer Optimization is limited to 1 minute of runtime
      • Tolerancing limitations:
        • Tolerancing scripts are not supported
        • Tolerancing using the Merit Function as a criterion is not supported
      • Only 1 instance of Ansys Zemax OpticStudio can be used at a time
      • No more than 4 CPU cores are available for computation
      • Several features related to advanced design and design for manufacture (including Part Designer, Stock Lens Matching, Quick Yield Tolerancing, and Stray Light Analysis tools) are not supported
      • In all cases, features and capabilities that are unsupported will remain in the UI (when appropriate) but be grayed out and unavailable for use

Besides, this forum is the only support option for the student version. The other support & learning options are available with a regular license of Ansys Zemax OpticStudio. To get in touch & discuss the possibilites of accessing a trial license you can use the form here: Free Optical Design Software | Ansys Zemax OpticStudio

      I hope this helps
