SubscriberHello!
I'm pretty sure I've encountered a real bug in Ansys Fluent but seems like Student license users cannot report them directly so I'm writing here.
I use Ansys 2025 R1 on Windows 11.
Here are the steps to reproduce the bug:
- Setup a Workbench Project with geometry and mesh. Here's a ready one, alternatively do the following:
- Create a new Workbench Project, save it.
- Add "Fluid Flow (Fluent)".
- Import Geometry -- file dp0\FFF\DM\FFF.dsco.
- Set in Mesh properties "Save Mesh Data In Separate File", start Meshing (by double-click), save, and close.
- Place files dp0\global\MECH\FFF.mshdb, dp0\global\MECH\FFF.mshdb.acmo and dp0\FFF\MECH\FFF.msh in their folders.
- Press "Update" on Mesh in Workbench.
- Double-click Setup to open Fluent Launcher, launch Fluent.
- Right-click Boundary Conditions -- Wall -- wall-design-refinement, set Type=symmetry.
- Right-click Boundary Conditions -- Wall -- wall-design-tank, set Type=symmetry.
- Right-click Materials -- Solid -- aluminum, press Delete, press Yes.
- Double-click Cell Zone Conditions -- Fluid -- design-cube, press Apply: everything works.
- Right-click Models -- Energy (Off), set On.
- Double-click Cell Zone Conditions -- Fluid -- design-cube, press Apply: see error in Console "Error: CAR: invalid argument [1]: wrong type [not a pair]
Error Object: ()". - Double-click Cell Zone Conditions -- Fluid -- design-cube: Fluent instantly crashes.
TL;DR: I make the only solid material unused, remove it, confirm that Cell Zones can be saved, enable Energy model, confirm that a Cell Zone produces error when trying to save, confirm that then even trying to open same Cell Zone crashes Fluent.
Expected result: There would be no error and no crash, Cell Zones would continue to save normally.
Actual behaviour: There's an error and a crash.
I'm not asking for workaround for this bug (I'll just not delete the only solid material), I'm asking for this bug report to be passed to the developers so that it could be fixed.
Thanks!

Forum ModeratorThanks for reporting. There are a couple of similar materials database glitches in the code that are in the system so I'll find the report and add that one. I doubt anyone has tested that scenario in a while as no one would think anyone would do that!Â
