Need to assemble a PC for Ansys simulations

      Hello everyone,

I need to assemble a PC for Ansys Simulation. I majorly use Ansys fluent and a little bit of designmodeller, meshing etc. In fluent the PC should be able to perform multi-phase calculation to some extent.

I am pretty new to the simulation field and don't have much idea on computers and hardware related stuff. Can anyone suggest what the following -

      1. No processors,
      2. No of cores
      3. RAM speed

Is there any other parameter that I need to look while assembling?

      Any help will be appreciated.

The supported cards etc are here https://www.ansys.com/it-solutions/platform-support However, it's not as simple as that. The CFD solvers work on a licence system, so you can only run on cores you have a licence for, Student is 4, and with the Research keys (paid for) you can then boost that up with parallel packs. The size of the model also dictates the ideal amount of RAM, cpu etc.
Very roughly, aim for 4GB RAM per core (note, my laptop is one cpu with 4 real cores) for runs, and try to have all of the RAM available for meshing. Again, my laptop has 64GB RAM but I also use it for trouble shooting medium sized cases - I use the cluster for big jobs. Don't forget to spec out a decent hard drive (we use SSD as we broke too many of the older type) and chip interconnect whatzits.
