We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Multizone Meshing with Polyhedral or Poly-Hexcore

      Hello,

Is it possible to use multizone meshing for a region within your domain while also being able to use poly or poly-hexcore for the rest of the domain? For example, if you have a cylinder not aligned with the cartesian coordinate system, can you multizone mesh that to align the cells to the flow direction while the connecting domain is poly or poly-hexcore?

      Hello,

yes, that is possible. You just need to create separate cell zones for this. When using MultiZone, you do not need to mesh the entire domain. You will find a task for generating the volume mesh in the remaining zones of your domain after the MultiZone meshing is complete.

Ok. From my understanding though, if you wanted to mesh the non-multizone region and have a conformal mesh/interface, Ansys only supports Tet or Hexcore. If you wanted to use Polyor Poly-Hexcore in the rest of the domain, you'd need a non-conformal interface. Correct? If so, it seems like the ability to have a conformal multizone/poly mesh would be nice. Star-CCM+ has this capability.

Yes, you are correct. If you have a hex-type multizone mesh, you currently cannot have a conformal interface with a Polyhedral/polyhexcore zone.
