We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Is it possible to model Active Damping using ansys? If so are there any courses or resources discussing it?

      Hi

Perhaps if you could give some more specific info on what you want to look at, forum members might be able to provide some more feedback (because the question now is very generic and ansys does not have anything specific say like a BC or something else that will account for this).

      Thank you

        Hi Erik,

I meant, if for a single degree of freedom system, instead of introducing damping as material property or as viscous damping, we use actuators to introduce a counter force to reduce the amplitude of vibration. This damping force will actually depend on the displacement of the mass or the applied force causing the displacement. As you said, I understand it is not possible to give that as a setting or as a BC. So, what other possibilities are there? This is just an overview of the problem in hand.

          Hi

For tuned mass dampers say see :

          Hope this helps

(sure there are other resources if you search the internet - perhaps someone else can share more info and links)

I am just at the beginning of a problem. I might be able to give specific information and hopefully more help once I get into it.

Tuned mass damper in turn uses as specific damping value throughout. Here what i need is more of a dynamic system, which generates a damping force which is a function of the actual displacement of the mass.

Practically what happens is, a body subject to a force vibrates. This vibration is sensed by some sort of a sensor (an accelerometer or displacement sensor). This data is used to actuate an actuator which generates a force opposing the applied force, eventually reducing thze amplitude of vibration. This is what I need to model precisely.

      Hi

perhaps search the internet as we do not have any standard solution for this:

say search: active vibration control and ansys
