Subscriberhi everyoneÂ
i am trying to generate meshing of i beam with holes for bolted connection it doesn't seem to be good enoughÂ
i used multi zone hexa method for the beam, face sizing at hole location for refinement and finally inflation for the beam around the hole
what i get is like the inflation layers exploded in one directionÂ
anyway can anyone explain what is the best practice for meshing a plate with hole for bolted connection ?

SubscriberOn the Inflation mesh control, in the Details window, don't take the default, change it to Total Thickness and type in the size of the offset from the hole edge.

SubscriberYou could have a smaller global element size.
You could add a Sizing control to the edge near the holes and have smaller elements on that edge.
You could add a Coordinate System to each hole and apply a Sizing control to the body using Sphere of Influence and specify smaller elements for a spherical region around the coordinate system origin.
You could turn up mesh smoothing.
You could turn on Mesh Quality and add a minimum quality requirement.
You could reduce the ratio the mesher uses to grow elements from small to large so it happens more slowly.
You could slice the body up into regular shaped pieces around each hole.
