SubscriberHello,
I am working on a Soil-Structure-Interaction model under seismic load. A 2D simulation is sufficient for my purpose, however I still want to use solid elements (due to the selected material models). So the idea is to model a 1m thick slice, and restrain the out-of-plane (x) direction. I only want 1 element through thickness, while the mesh height (z dir) will vary from 4m at the bottom of the soil profile to 0.5m towards the upper portion (structure embedment depth). I did some free field site response runs (propagate time histories through the soil column without the structure) and for this I could set up a few sizing objects for the mesh, and it worked just fine. However, once I added the structure model (shell elements), the program always meshes two elements through the thickness. I am using LS Dyna Workbench 2025R1. How can I force the program to use only 1 element in x direction ?

Ansys EmployeeHi,Â
I guess you can try to set off the adaptive sizing in mesh settings.Â
Alternatively, you can do assembly meshing, where solids with defined sizing are grouped in one system and shells with set sizing in another system.Â
There will be a master system that will consume the mesh from this system. This way, the mesh will be preserved.Â
Cheers, RamÂ
