Hello, I am using the student version of ansys to try simulate some antenna designs. I am using the HFSS wizard to initially create a model. When trying to analyse the design I get an error message:
Looking online for solutions people have commented on the restrictions of the student version and suggested in making the mesh more course to reduce the number of elements being simulated. I followed their suggestion by following the menu path HFSS>Mesh>Initial mesh settings and sliding the slider all the way to course. While this did reduce the number of elements, it still exceeds the student version limits.
Does anyone know of any further way to insure you stay within the student version limits?
Thank you for your time.

Hello,
Please try reducing the maximum number of passes in the analysis setup.
Thanks,

Hi Chinmay,
I followed your suggestion and navigated to the analysis solution setup.
I found the default value for 'Maximum number of passess' to be 15 which when analysed resulted in a mesh size of 91950 volume elements. I adjusted the value of 15 down to 5 and reanalysed, the volume elements did not lower. I further reduce the number of passes down to 1 and the value did not lower. In the below screen shot are the error messages for each analysis attempt with a reduce value for number of passes. Â
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you

Hi Mitchell,
The error you are getting is not dependent on the number of passes given in the solution setup. Ansys HFSS software does estimate the mesh elements required for analysis based on the initial mesh settings. While doing so it found that this estimate is beyond the student version limitation.
You can simplify the model so that mesh elements count falls below the student version limitation or use commercial if the model cannot be simplified.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Praneeth.
