Mesh generation for surface bodies

      Hello everyone,


      I'm trying to model a cooling tower as surface in which thickness of cooling tower varies with height. So I've created nearly 70 surfaces since I want to take into consideration the varying thickness. After this I tried to mesh the cooling tower but I'm getting distorted mesh. Following image shows the mesh I get



      But I want the mesh as shown below:



      I want 10 degrees interval between 2 consecutive lines.


      I tried to combined those surface in spaceclaim and tried to mesh it but I got a warning,



      I can get mesh as I want when I combines the surfaces but it does not consider varying thickness. Now, how do I mesh the tower with 10 degrees requirement.

      Hi Make sure the number of edges on the opposite side of the critical surface(and also for all) is same.
      Also add sizing and mapped meshing if needed.

      Don't combine the surfaces in SpaceClaim.


      Do use Shared Topology on the top level assembly in SpaceClaim.


      In Mechanical, use Face Meshing on all the surfaces. This will force quad elements on each ring, and Shared Topology will force nodes to be shared.

      How do I convert the triangular mesh to quadrilateral mesh?


       


      Also, I get a warning.

      Use a Face Meshing control to force Quad elements.


      Make the first height of surface a little taller to try to avoid triangle elements.


      I recommend you create beam elements for the columns under the tower.


      Don't worry about a little skewness in the shell elements.




      If you use a circular cross-section for the beams, then you don't have to orient them!
