We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Mesh and convergence issue

      Hi,

I'm currently working on a project where analyzing Aluminum beam under load, causing bending and torsion. Since the geometry is relativley simple, I tried to build up an appropriate multi zone mesh, but the problem with multi zone mesh is, that Ansys cannot calculate automaticly if results (stresses) are converging. Trying to validate the results I solved the same problem with auto (tetrahedral) mesh. Deformation seems to be close to the solution with previous mesh, but I have issue because normal stress (x-direction) does not converge and are far from results with multi zone mesh.

I assume the problem is, that critical stress point is close to area with zero displacement condition(area B on the picture has fixed y direction) maybe there is a problem with singularities?

The goal of the problem certainly is to find out whether max. stress in every single part of the beam is below critical (yield) stress or with other words if the beam is not plastically (permanently) deformed.
