SubscriberHi,
I would like to know the difference between the solver of Maxwell and Mechanical APDL for a Magnetostatics problem, do both programs use the same solver or is it difference? and what are the differences?
Secondly I would like to know which solver of both is used Discovery AIM Electromagnetics.
Thank you,
Mohamed Radwan

Ansys EmployeeMaxwell solves magnetostatic problems (magnetic fields, etc.). - Mechanical APDL solves structural and thermal problems (stress, temperature, etc). ANSYS Workbench can be used to combine the two so that magnetic excitations from Maxwell can drive thermal problems to be computed in Mechanical APDL.

SubscriberDear Sir,
Thank you very much for your Answer.
I downloaded Ansys Workbench 19.2 and as shown in the picture there is Magnetostatic tool in the toolbox, does this mean that this Magnetostatic tool uses the Ansoft Maxwell solver or the Mechanical APDL solver. I'm asking because I found an online help of how Mechanical APDL handels magnetic analysis.
https://www.sharcnet.ca/Software/Ansys/16.2.3/en-us/help/ans_lof/Hlp_G_ELE1_2.html
I would like to know which solver is used by Discovery AIM to handle the Electromagnetics problems.
Thank you

Ansys EmployeeNo this is not the Maxwell solver. You will also have to install the matching version of the ANSYSÂ Electromagnetics Suite. After this installation you will see options in this list for 'Maxwell 3D'.
