SubscriberIn the documentation, there is a comment under Hertzian Dipoles that says, "The Magnetic dipole is useful for EMC/EMI applications." It does not clarify why that is the case. I understand the physics of the electric hertzian dipole. What is different about the magnetic h.d. that makes it useful for EMC/EMI?

Hi Christopher,
Both electric and magnetic hertzian dipoles can be used for EMI/EMC simulations. Their major difference is in the formulations. The formulations are available in online help. You can search for Electric Spherical Wave (Electric Hertzian Dipole) and Magnetic Spherical Wave (Magnetic Hertzian Dipole) for quick access. Anyways, in terms of simulations and how to related it to experiment for a specific case, a user may choose any of the sources. Also, note that the two dipoles (electric and magnetic) aligned in the same direction have different polarizations.Â
