SubscriberHello there,
Â
I had a question regarding Lumerical var 2D, ring resonators and sidewalls. All examples (to my knowledge) do not include sidewall on their waveguides, and presume a vertical slope.
Â
My question is as follows, adding sidewalls to waveguides (as defined by the waveguide object), will var2d still be valid, and are adjustements required to make it valid, i.e location of test points and number?
Thanks!

Ansys EmployeeHi Edward, that is a good question. The general answer is no, varFDTD is not valid for angled / sloped sidewalls because in this case the structure is no longer planar. (See 1:22 of this video for more information: Examples — Lesson 2 | ANSYS Innovation Courses)
For a resonator with sloped sidewalls, I think that 3D FDTD would be required.Â
Best,
Anna
