  Are there different types of LS DYNA licenses required for running the MPP solver as opposed to the SMP solver?

  Yes, the license file may need different increments (ansys license) or options (old lstc license) to run smp vs. mpp.

    In LSTC license, you need "MPPDYNA" and "LS-DYNA" options.
    In Ansys license (at least for commecial license), you need "dyna" and "dysmp". I have minimal knowledge of Ansys license but I just did a test run on my machine. For an MPP job with 4 cores, 1 "dyna" and 3 "dynsmp" were checked out.
