I read these should be used if the injected particle density is high. But what exactly do they do, what is the difference, and when should I use either one?

That's for high volume fraction or particle source term and not material density: just checking! Â
They add in some extra solver numerics that simplify the gradient maths and spread the particle source around. Both will improve solver stability, but may introduce slight inaccuracies to the solution. Both are covered in the User's Guide or Theory Manual.Â
