If I pull the front of a plastic box, the sides compress. The sides can deform upto 5mm before they hit a block inside the box. I want to restrict the deformation of the side faces upto 5mm, so that I can skip modelling the block.Â

Naturally, when you pull the block face, the side face will compress, and it depends upon the material's elasticity and the amount of force applied. But if you want to restrict the deformation, then it must be anything that can provide support from the inside. You can make supports inside the box at a distance of 5 mm from the side of the box and provide contact between them so that the side of the box may not move inside more than 5 mm.

Thanks Sampat, just to clarify, I definitely can add supports instead of modeling the block. But is there any other way to restrict a certain DOF upto a certain value without having to add supports?Â

Hi Hakim,
Have you already pulled on the front face of the block and observed > 5 mm directional deformation of the sides of the box? If you got less than 5 mm then you can skip modeling anything inside the box!

Hi Peter, yes the sides do deform more than 5mm.
