Ansys EmployeeHi Matthias,
Please confirm the license manager is functional
- assuming Windows, please run these from a CMD on the license server
"C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\fnp\winx64\lmutil.exe" lmstat -c 1055@localhost -iÂ
Does this result in listing all the license increments?
If yes:
Do you have firewalls on the license server?
Add firewall exceptions for:
"C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\licensing\winx64\lmgrd.exe"
"C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\licensing\winx64\ansyslmd.exe"
After performing those two items, on the client, open a CMD and run these two commands (correct the LicenseServerName):
ping LicenseServerName
"C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\fnp\winx64\lmutil.exe" lmstat -c 1055@LicenseServerName  -iÂ
Does both tests result in success?
If so, set these two environment variables on the client and try running the Ansys application again:
ANSYSLMD_LICENSE_FILE=1055@LicenseServerName
ANS_FLEXLM_DISABLE_DEFLICPATH=1
thanks

Ansys EmployeeHi Pochang,
Thank you for the comment.
The Legacy Named User Subscription option is not supported in Ansys 25R1. You should migrate to the web-based Ansys Named User licensing.
Regards,
Randy

Ansys EmployeeHi Matthias,
I sincerly apologize as I had assumed local Flex licensing - based on the limited description of the issue.
The Legacy Named User Subscription option is not supported in Ansys 25R1. You should migrate to the web-based Ansys Named User licensing.
Please contact your account manager to discuss migration to "Named User-Shared Web licensing"
thanks

SubscriberAh ok.

SubscriberHi! Matthias and Thomas
I can share your feeling on this issue. I think we can consult this license changing issue with our company law department and see if this kind of policy change violate the fair trading acts laws in our countries. In my case, our ANSYS sales agent told me that we need to pay new tecs rate to keep our Paid-up "Named User Subcription"Â active in future. What a rediculous proposal!!??
We had placed an order including TECS for 2 years in Sep. 2024. However, ANSYS is asking us to pay more funds this year for future use. If we decide not to pay this money, ANSYS will not guarantee that our Discovery Named User Subcription can alwarys function well in future.
That just sounds like : I just bought a Tesla last year. And Ian Musk send me a letter saying : Pay me some more money or your Tesla would be stuck in your garage someday in the future. Could you say that I'm going to spend my hard earn bucks at my own will?Â
@ RandyÂ
If I'm misleading something, why don't you just ask your product line manager to make a offical statement in public to clarify all this doubts? The best resolution is to make a guarantee to grant all Discovery Named User Subcription will be active and effective per each contract signed without any new and additional terms. Contract is contract and term is term. You can't change anything without permission from the other party. Is ANSYSÂ try to make us "an offers that we can't refuse"? I suppose that it's not the intent of ANSYS Inc.

Ansys EmployeeHi Matthias, Pochang, and Thomas,
Licensing processes often requires upgrades to align with the software version.Â
This occurs with on-prem licensing as well - new license files and utilities are sent to accomodate the latest software releases. My position at Ansys is to assist with installation/licensing issues and I have no influence on pricing or implementation.
I apologize for the frustration you are experiencing and have approached your sales teams - requesting they contact you to address your concerns/issues.
At this point, I feel the topic of this forum question is being actively addressed by the sales team.
- the issue that Matthias had originially presented was related to Ansys v251 incompatibility with the 'Legacy Named User Subscription'
- the resolution is to migrate to 'web-based Ansys Named User licensing'Â - or potentially on-prem licensing.Sincerely,Randy -

Ansys EmployeeHello Gentlemen,
Thank you for your feedback — I fully understand your concerns, and they are entirely valid.
We've recently upgraded our licensing system to provide a smoother user experience and to bring more consistency across our various solutions. While we acknowledge that the transition has not been without its hiccups, please rest assured that we are doing everything we can to resolve the situation swiftly and effectively.
There will indeed be a change in the licensing model, but our goal is to make this shift as seamless as possible for our users.Your sales representative will be in touch shortly with the steps needed to update your software to the 2025 version.
On a lighter note - while I appreciate the comparison, I’d argue that Tesla may not be the best example, as some of their feature removals came after purchase. But let’s not open that can of worms!
Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts, and above all, thank you for your continued trust in our products.
Regards,
Philippe -

SubscriberHi! Philippe
Thank you very much for you sincere reply. Things sound good hearing the Named User Scription could be migrate to floating license option.
However, we need to pay more TECS rate thus our 2 year TESC might be cut to 1 year TECS plus some more budgets. We are left no option to stay at the current status because ANSYS Inc. doen't want to guarantee we can use our Discovery Named User Subscription until 2050 as listed in contract and license form.Â
Philippe, you missed this point. Got it?

Ansys EmployeeBe sure that what you paid is what you will have. As I explained, we will quickly provide a workaround so that you can continue to use SpaceClaim as usual.
Please, give us a couple of weeks to be sure everyone on our side is present and can tell you what to do.
Regards,
Philippe

SubscriberAn interesting information got outside forum. What the difference between Named User Subscription and Standard Flexnet License? Regarding TECS terms, I wonder Named User Scribers were not given access to upgrade their software when ANSYS publish new version during the TECS period. While some sales agents might think there is no difference for Named User Scribers on software upgrading issues than those Standard Flexnet Licensing users. However, there might be some difference between these two authenification methods and not every sales men in ANSYS eco-system really understand it. It's just my wondering. I don't really mean it.
