I am trying to run Lumerical (FDTD engine, v221) on a university HPC node (Linux) using a floating license from a license server on the same network, but I get an error when trying to check out a license. I am able to run the same version of Lumerical on my Windows and Linux laptops without problems, on the same network and with the same user name, license address, and license port.
I have confirmed that the HPC node is able to communicate with the license server on the specified port using ping, Netcat, and curl. I also used lmutil lmstat to check the license status from the HPC node. When querying the correct address and port, the response is: "Error getting status: Cannot read license file data from license server system. (-61,48)"
Querying a closed port on the license server gives: "Error getting status: Cannot connect to license server system. (-15,570:115 "Operation now in progress")"
Querying an incorrect IP address gives: "Error getting status: License server machine is down or not responding. (-96,7:2 "No such file or directory")"
Â
What problems could result in a licensing error -61 on a specific machine, and what can I do to further diagnose or fix this problem?

From the information you provided, the issue seems to be on the HPC cluster. Which might not be able to communicate with the license server on the TCP ports used by the Ansys LM. Please consult with HPC admins to allow access from HPC/cluster nodes to the license server on the ports used by the ALM on your server.Â
