We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Is there a simple data base of electronic parts, motors, resistors etc.

I am a product designer trying to use the Eco Audit in Granta Edu pack to predict the CO2e of varrious designs that contain plastics bodies, stainless steel screws, PCBs, motors, and switches, but I can't see moters and switches in the database. How to find the information?

Hi, David, with Granta EduPack, I suggest creating your own Bill of Materials for motors and swithces you're interested in. I am attaching an example of Level 3 Industrial Case Study: Materials for a Tablet Device for your reference.

Additionally, if you have access to ecoinvent database (some data is included in Granta Selector), you should be able to find relavent information on motors and switches there. Thanks!

Thanks Wen the case study was good. I don't have access to ecoinvent or the granta selector, but I have found lots of electrical parts in the level 3 Eco design data set.

Select material universe, then the subset Eco Audit materials. You will then see the Electrical components folder.

You can then add electrical components in your list of materials. Have a good look through all the electrical component folders to see what is available. There is a printed circuit board assembly in the subsystems folder.

Unfortunately I can't see any motors listed. If you watch the training video you will see how this problem can be overcome by adding the weights of the main materials that make up a motor.

Hi, David, I'm glad you found the case study helpful. Regarding the data and tools, Granta EduPack is primarily a teaching tool designed to help students understand the methodology, so the data included is not exhaustive. That said, with Granta EduPack, you can still include motors and switches in the Eco Audit tool by breaking them down into their main material components and adding the weights manually as shown in the case study. In the meanwhile, if you have more extensive research or data needs, I’d encourage you to explore our research databases and tools, such as Granta Selector. Thanks!
