Importing data from Moldflow results

      Hello,

I'm trying to import data from Moldflow results into a Static Structural analysis.

Where can I find some example/workshop about this?

If there is none, I hope you'll answer at least some of my questions.

Since I haven't found any material concerning this on Learning Hub, I have followed the instructions from Ansys Help and I have used the component system "Injection Molding Data".

It requires a Mesh File (.cdb), a Fiber Orientation Tensor File (.ele or .nod or .xml) an Initial stress file (.ist).

What if the injected material is just a polymer and doesn't have fibers? Without fibers I cannoty export a Fiber Orientaion Tensor File.

Can the tool still be used? How?

I've tried to apply the suggested workflow starting with an analisys with a material having fibers. If I use default Engineering Data materials I get the following error:

"Imported material field data can not be written because no material property is dependent on the material field. Assign a material that has field dependent data to the same bodies that the imported material field data was imported on."

Do I always need to use Material Designer to have the Injection Molding Data component working? Can it be set up to work without fibers?

      Thanks

Hello Could you please help us understand the following?
What sort of anisotropy do you expect in a situation where there are no fibers?
What sort of material data do you have to model this mechanical?
      Thank you.

Hello Karthik, thank you for your reply.
I expect to have some light anisotropy due to the orientation of the polymer's macromolecules caused by the process, but I am not interested in that and I agree it can be negligible.
I am not interested in the anisotropy, but I need to import the initial stress from the Moldflow simulation. I have to model the creep induced by the residual stress after a thermal cycle. What I am saying is that the component system "Injection Molding Data" still requires a Fiber Orientation Tensor File.
Not using the component system "Injection Molding Data" and importing the .ist with an APDL command works only after the format of the text in the .ist is modified. I have done the changes, but it is still not pratical since it forces the user to stick to the mesh created in Moldflow, which has a very low quality for structural analysis.
I solved the problem by exporting a Fiber Orientation Tensor File from a Moldflow simulation carried out using the same model (with the same mesh), but using a material with fibers. I then set as input for the Injection Molding Data this Fiber Orientation Tensor, the relative .cdb and the Initial stress file from my simulation without fibers. In Mechanical I suppressed all the functions associated with the anisotropy (Imported element orientation and Imported Material fields) while keeping the Initial Stress (Imported initial stress). I created a viscoelastic material in Engineering data and applied it to the component.
      Does all this sound correct?
      Thanks

Hello Please simplify this workflow by using the "External Data" component. The External Data allows you to import stress from a column formatted text file and map it onto the geometry.
You may wish to look into this documentation.
