We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Import Colorinformation from Creo to Workbench

      Hello,
I'm trying to transfer color information that I set with Creo in my component to Ansys Workbench. For this I have integrated the Ansys interface in my Creo 4.0.

In the help you can read the following:
Color Processing Creo Elements / Direct Modeling does not directly color the color, but the plug-in can not capture color and automatically group each of them. This can be accomplished by adding the keyword "Color" to the Named Selection Key list. The following selection groups will be named with the form, Color: R.G.B. Here R, G and B are values ranging from 0 to 255, which represent the amount of color saturation of Red, Green and Blue color components. For example Color: 0.0.0 is black, Color: 255.255.255 is white, and Color: 255.0.0 is red.

Within Mechanical Body Colors, the following steps are virtually unavoidable:

Prior to attach / refresh, enable the Attributes preference.

">Add the keyword "Color" to the Attributes Key list.

After attach / refresh is complete, in Mechanical perform Tools-> Run Macro and designate this script to run: v182 [version] aisol DesignSpace DSPages macros BodyColorByCADColorAttribute.js

Unfortunately, I'm not far with the information since all my attempts have failed.

I also tried adding a restricted_val_definition. unfortunately also without success.

      Can someone help me there?

      regards

      Hello Franz,

I have the ANSYS geometry interface to the NX CAD system and I got used to getting different colors in ANSYS than the bodies had in NX. I haven't looked at what you have found, but I have learned how to transfer important groups of entities in NX to ANSYS.

In NX, there is an ANSYS menu where I can create Named Selections in the CAD system, and these of course show up in ANSYS Workbench Mechanical. In Creo, you could select all the color blue parts, then create a Named Selection called blue, for example.

Named Selections are really important to use for loads and boundary conditions when making topology changes to the bodies. The CAD system tags those entities put in a Named Selection, and they are maintained during editing. Without using Named Selections in the CAD system and just picking entities in Mechanical to attach loads and boundary conditions, when a Geometry update is done in ANSYS Workbench, new entity labels are sent over with the new geometry and the loads and boundary conditions need to be reselected or are actually wrong!

      Regards,
      Peter

      Hi Peter,

First of all, thank you for your quick reply. This topic is very important to me. If the colors are exactly taken over is irrelevant to me, the main thing they can be distinguished.

Can you maybe show me screenshots of the menu in Ansys and the setting in NX. I would be very grateful for that.

      best regards

      Franz

      Hi Franz,

Here is the ANSYS 19.1 Named Selections Manager inside NX11.

Click Create and pick 3 Solid Bodies.

The NS_ prefix is there, I type wheel.

Click Create again and this time filter for Face and pick the face at the center of the wheel.

      Type hole.

I can pick from the list of NS_names and edit them with the other buttons.

These Named selections will show up in Mechanical for use in scoping loads and boundary conditions, if I have checked the Named Selections box on Geometry properties in Workbench before I import.

      Here they are in Mechanical.

      Regards,

      Peter

      Hi Peter,

everything what you have shown me has worked so far.  It is very strange that the colors are taken over with the correct color value (see components) but still displayed as red.

      Regards,

      Franz
