SubscriberHi,
Im trying to apply an ICEM mesh to a wishbone shaped vortex generator used for aerodynamic drag reduction on vehicles. Having no experience I have read through multiple tutorials and watched online videos but have established no clear cut method on how to set up a mesh for a more complex geometry.Â
I believe my issue is not fully understanding what associations need to be made between the split fluid blocking and lines/edges of the geometry as I have been trying many variations of splitting with edge association and deleting unnecessary blocks.
For my geometry what is the best approach to take for associations? i.e. edge, point or surface. Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Josh. -

Ansys EmployeeHi
We can not download attachments as ANSYS Staff. You can try Workbench Meshing for this geometry and check if you can generate mesh. There are some videos on Workbench Meshing which you can look at.Â

SubscriberHello,
I was advised ICEM meshing would be suitable, I have read reports online where people have managed to apply this technique but to vane type vortex generators where sides are all straight lines. Is ICEM meshing sensitive to curved surfaces or is it simply the number of associations needed to be made is significantly higher?Â
Thanks,Â
Josh

Forum ModeratorICEM CFD can deal with curves easily enough, but if you're blocking that shape you could have problems. Why are you wanting to use ICEM CFD over Fluent Meshing or Workbench (Ansys) Meshing?

SubscriberThe best way is to make a 3D bounding box of block and make o grid of this block, and associate edges of blocks to the curves of geometry followed by linking shape in o-grid faces around the walls(vortex generator surface in this case)
