SubscriberHello everyone!
In my project, I need to design a THz modulator incorporating 2D-material (germanium selenide (GeSe) in my case) which is sensitive to light. For the light source what is the source I need to use in FDTD simulation? Can I use plane wave and gaussian source together in the simulation? Also while adding the 2D material, it is not reflecting the properties of it. Its conductivity is always constant for any wavelength of the source? How to add GeSe?

Ansys Employeeyou have two questions:
1: 2D material with dispersion
2: simulation source
For 2D conductivity material, you can import data. Please refer to Creating new sampled data materials in FDTD it is the same as permittivity/index in terms of data. You can select add/2D sample data in material database.
Modulator usually is based on waveguide. If your THz modulator is a kind of waveguide with the 2D material, you can use mode source or port. Please visit this example: Spatial soliton in a graphene-embedded waveguide
