context: I am an absolute beginner with this software & also cfds as a whole. I am trying to study the parameters of fountain nozzle design and thought that attempting simulations would be a good way to start, I found a similar post on the ansys forums but it didn't have the necessary resources. The first image is what I would like to make/ replicate the second one is where I currently stand.
January 10, 2022 at 11:38 amRobForum ModeratorI'd need to see the full error message to help with that as there's probably a more diagnostic line in there.
To model the fountain you'll need the VOF model, and quite a lot of mesh & compute resource. If you click on help you'll find some tutorials. Do the first few to familiarise yourself with the software and then look for any on VOF. The images you've plotted look like pathlines, the top image is an isosurface, probably of the water free surface.
January 11, 2022 at 10:05 amParth_MehtaSubscriberHello Sir, thanks for taking out the time & sending in a response. I do have a few follow-up questions so if you have the time do answer the question when you can.
This is an image of the socket error. I hope it helps with understanding the issue.
Could you elaborate on what you mean by the VOF model also when you say to click on help do you mean on the forum or within the ansys fluent
How do I use isosurface-based modeling? i only see streamlines in fluent post-processing & if not in post-processing then where can I access isosurfaces?

In Fluent most panels have a Help button, or click on the Help at the top right of the screen. That takes you to the documentation, and also a load of tutorials & videos. These include the VOF model which is used to track the free surface. An iso-surface is a surface we can create in the solver at a fixed value to show the shape: for VOF it's traditionally at a volume fraction of 0.5 and then shows where the water is.
January 11, 2022 at 11:32 amJanuary 11, 2022 at 11:46 amRobForum ModeratorTo confirm, are you using Fluent or CFX? If you're using the "Results" option in Workbench don't; instead use the post-processing in Fluent.
January 12, 2022 at 5:43 amParth_MehtaSubscriberI am using fluent, also yes i am using the results section. How do I use the post-processing instead?
January 12, 2022 at 9:43 amRobForum ModeratorJust use the "Results" part in Fluent, not via Workbench. Do some of the tutorials as they focus on Fluent as opposed to CFD Post for post processing.
