Error when setting up current sources

      Hi,

I am trying to simulate a coplanar waveguide which will carry a constant current to generate magnetic field. In the image below I have shown the current going in and coming out of the model, and additionally this current excitation lying on the edge of simulation area. But when I try to run the simulation Maxwell gives the following error:

"Source setup error, possible reasons are 1) The solved region is not singly connected. If any circle in the solved region can not be freely shrunk to a point, then solved region is not regarded as singly connected. 2) The independent and dependent boundaries are not connected. For this case, Integrated Zero Tangential H Field boundary condition  need to be assigned on one boundary connecting independent and dependent boundaries."

I'm not sure why I am getting this error. The materials that I'm using are "perfect conductor " and "vacuum". Any help will be appreciated.

      Thanks

      Hi Shravan,

Thank you for reaching out to the Ansys learning forum, your patience is much appreciated.

Please let us know the reason for using Ansys Maxwell for the coplanar waveguide simulation. I assume the signal frequency would be in the GHz range for your simulation. These microwave structures are generally analyzed using Ansys HFSS. Kindly check if you are using the correct Ansys tool as per your requirements.

If you are new to simulation, then please go through the "Coplanar Waveguide" model provided in "Open Examples>HFSS>Trasnmission Lines"  on the ribbon area of the Desktop tab.

      Best regards,
      Praneeth.

        Hi,

What I'm trying to get is the magnetic field generated by this coplanar waveguide and then use that magnetic field data to calculate the mutual inductance between this coplanar waveguide and other structure (not included in the above images). So, I thought Ansys Maxwell can do this magnetostatic simulation. Can I use HFSS to get mutual inductance between coplanar waveguides where current passes through only one of them?

        Thanks,

        Shravan

      Hi Shravan,

Please use Ansys Q3D to get the mutual inductance between the coplanar waveguides.

      Best regards,
      Praneeth.
