How to save report file to alternate directory

      Hello,

I am trying to save my report files to a separate folder. However, when I try and change the folder directory, I get the following message: "the paths specified for report files will be ignored and files will be saved in project directory".

When I run my simulation, the report files end up being saved in the project directory and not my specified folder location.

How do I go about saving report files to a separate folder? Is there a setting I'm supposed to change somewhere?

      Thanks

If you have already defined report, you can change it in report files path. Edit report files and you can change it.
Or you can just copy it later to other folder after run is complete.
Why do you want to change it? Any specific reason.
Also make sure you are using latest version.

I tried to change the folder directory of the report file after having defined it but it still gives me the same message that the path I specified will be ignored and the file will be saved in the default project directory.
I know that I can copy it later to another folder, but the reason I want to have it done from the beginning is because I am preparing a journal file that runs through multiple simulations using the same mesh. I don't know how to make sophisticated journal files so what I'm doing is running consecutive simulations using the same Fluent setup in Workbench and saving the results to separate folders (except for the report files). I don't want to overwrite the report files when running consecutive simulations, which is what is happening right now. It's odd because I am able to save case and data files as well as writing flux and surface integral reports to other folders, but I can't configure the report file to write to a separate folder.
      Any help would be appreciated.

Workbench will overwrite most path changes. If you want to use journals to drive Fluent use it outside of Workbench. The launcher should be available from the Start menu, if not look in
      "C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v211\fluent\ntbin\win64\ for fluent.exe and create a shortcut.

Thank you for this response Rob. I did come to the realization that I probably wasn't utilizing journals as effectively as I could.
I would just like to clarify a couple things. To run my journal file, should I be opening Fluent directly, as in the fluent.exe, rather than going through Workbench? Will this allow me to overwrite the default directories?
Also, does it make any difference that my journal file is written based on GUI commands and not TUI commands? I learned my way through Fluent (not too long ago) by navigating purely through the GUI and not the TUI. I realized that the TUI based journals are much more concise and readable than GUI based journals, but I haven't gotten around to learning exactly how to reproduce my GUI commands with TUI commands.

Fluent standalone means you lose out on the WB workflows (ie parameter managers etc) but gain flexibility to launch from and save into different locations using paths with filenames of your choosing. Both are "best" but it's for the user to decide which features they want. Note, the lines will blur further with all the tools going into Fluent and Optislang links etc so expect the above to change in the future.
GUI journals are often problematic. If you launch the journal with a panel open but recorded with it closed the journal may fail or do something weird. We recommend using TUI journals, ie
      /file/read-case mycase.cas.h5
      /file/rc mycase.cas.h5
are the same command: build the commands from looking in the TUI, Enter accepts a command and will list the options in the new menu level, q (Q) takes you up a menu. Always use the full path and / to force the full root level command. That also stops the command going wrong if you're in the wrong menu level. Also test the journal on a small case.

Thank you Rob. I have started reading into the TUI command list and will start to migrate my GUI journal over to a TUI based script.
I really wish there was a sort of GUI-to-TUI command converter, but I guess I will just have to relearn how to navigate Fluent using TUI.
I do have a bunch of questions on how to accomplish certain things using TUI that I was able to do on the GUI, but I can save those for another discussion.

ƒæìbut there is no GUI to TUI converter.
