SubscriberI want to reduce the three thin body ( panels in this case) to surfaces for composite modelling.
The panels are fastened with the hinges and contact is getting lost in generating the midsurface one way or another.
What are the options in ansys spaceclaim which can be used to maintain the contacts while converting solids to surfaces.?

Ansys EmployeeHey,
The contacts getting lost might not be due to midsurface creation entirely rather it can be due to contact setup.
If you are using midsurfacing tool try to create the surface which helps the contact. It can be done by selecting where you want the surface to be (not just mid surface)
Consider designating the contacting shell and target faces manually rather than leaving it to program controlled.
Consider using shell thickness effects as they help in considering shell thickness to detect contact.
Heres more help on that 9.6.3.1. Scope Settings (ansys.com)
If it still doesn't work try sharing the contact setup in the model.
Thanks

SubscriberHello Tanmay,
I´m wondering if you were able to overcome this problem. I´m facing with a similar problem: I have a midsurface plate with a solid fastener, and ANSYS is not detecting the contact with the hole. I´ve tried edge-to-face and edge-to-edge (imprinting the hole in the fasteners face) scoping, with and without thickness effect, but in the modal analysis it shows that they are not connected.
Thanks
