SubscriberHello. I am a student who is conducting a fe analysis study on car body parts.
I'm trying to proceed with the analysis in the appdl, but the shape of the cad model is too complicated, so it's difficult to analysis it.
Therefore, I want to simplify the shape in the space claim.
I'd like to know how to export this simplified model to space claim's icepak simplify in cad format.
Even if I export this icepak simplified modeling, it only be saved as a shape before simplified.
I'd like to know why and how to solve it. -

Ansys EmployeeHi Kim,
Are you trying to simplify the model in Spaceclaim or do you want to covert the CAD object to an Icepak Object (Level 3:CAD)? Please share more details. Thanks!

SubscriberWhat I'm trying to do with spacelaim is to simplify the model.
The cad shape is so complex that various errors occur in the process of performing CAE analysis in apdl.
Thus, in the process of simplifying cad models in several 3d design programs, I found icepak simplify of spacelaim.
This is the best simplification of my cad model, and I think it can be possible to CAE analysis.
As far as I understand, icepak object seems to have another purpose, so can't i just save it as cad object instead of using it for that purpose?
(I would like to apply the shape as shown in the picture above - after icepak simplify)

SubscriberHello! Simplifying complex CAD models in SpaceClaim can indeed streamline your FE analysis process, even for intricate car body parts. To export the simplified model to ICEM, ensure compatibility with CAD formats like STEP or IGES. This can enhance the analysis of car body parts and their relationship within the vehicle structure. If any issues arise, feel free to ask for further assistance. Happy modeling!

Ansys EmployeeHi Kim,Â
Icepak simplify option is used to convert the CAD to Icepak native objects so that it can used to run the thermal simulations in Ansys Icepak. Are you trying to export the Icepak Simplified geometry to APDL?Â

SubscriberYes, I want to export the Icepak Simplified geometry to APDL.
The Fe analysis I'm trying to do is thermal analysis and structural analysis to see the effect of welding on the structure.
As mentioned earlier, if it's the above shape, I don't think there will be any errors during the Fe analysis.
However, every time I export  Icepak simplified geometry from spacelaim, the file before performing icepak simplify has been saved. (Step, Parasolid, ACIS...)
Therefore, I would like to know how to save the above icepak simplified geometry as CAD formats like STEP or Parasolid.

Ansys EmployeeHi Kim,Â
That will not be possible as Icepak simplify is converting the CAD to an Icepak native object. You will need to simplify the model using Spaceclaim's CAD tools (eg Fill, etc). If you need further support, please file a customer support ticket with the APDl team and they will be happy to assist you. Thanks!
Best,
Pdev
