How can i create multiple solids in one design doc in SpaceClaim? if i am creating solids from standard profiles. So i start with one profile and pull it and make a solid out of it. i need to draw another solid within the same file. i have multiple of solids to create separately within the same file then i will start to assemble them. For example if i am creating a truss from solids. i create a solid for top horizontal member, a solid for bottom horizontal member, then multiple of solids for the lacings that connects between the top and bottom member.Â
How can i create these solids in one spaceclaim so i can start connecting the solids together?

SubscriberRight click on the top item in the Structure window and create a New Component. You can give the component a name. You can drag and drop existing geometry into the new component. Make a second New Component. See that one of the components is in Bold font? That is the Active Component. When you make geometry in that component, it won't merge with geometry in other components. You can also manage visibility of components. To make edits to geometry in a component, right click on it and Activate Component.

 You can create a mirror first and use the patterning tools as shown below?
Note that, in SpaceClaim, you can select a body and use the Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy paste. Just FYI, if you select one face and Ctrl+X, it will automatically convert a solid body to a surface body even if you paste it back. So play around!

Did you see my bridge building video? If all the segments are welded together, you can assign 10 different profiles to various lines.

Each member in the truss is a different solid. This is why i want to create the different solids first, then assemble them to form the truss.

I understand that to fabricate a physical truss, you have different solids, but to build a model to apply loads and calculate stress, you only need lines and cross sections if you are building a "beam" model of the truss.
If you want to draw the solids first, you can do that using the New Component method from my post above. Then you can use the automatic creation of beam cross sections that is in SpaceClaim. Using this method, it may happen that two beams don't touch at the ends due to the way the real parts weld on at the surface of another beam and not at the centerline where the lines would be drawn. You could use a Fixed Joint to connect the ends that have a gap between them.

Forum Moderatorpeteroznewman, I believe sam.fares@newmill.com needs to model this in solid instead of as line bodies/beams because these beams do not have continuous cross sections and have holes in them which are to be modeled as parametric for the location, right, Sam?
So given that you know how to create sketching planes in your model, you can either:
1. Sketch a profile in an appropriate plane which is created at the required location and then extrude (using Pull tool) these closed profiles to form the solid trusses
2. Sketch profile in any plane you like, extrude these profiles (Using pull tool) and then Move (Using Move tool) them to the required location to move these trusses to assemble them at the correct location.
