Hello,
I have downloaded the THUMS model provided by Toyota recently, and the files are in Key file, and k file format, which I believe are supposed to open on LS-DYNA, but I don't have LS-Dyna and would like to open those files in ANSYS workbench, is that possible?
If yes how can it be done?
February 15, 2021 at 5:26 pmChris QuanAnsys Employee.Yes, it is possible to read K files into Workbench using External Model system. The default unit system of the External Model is m/kg/s. Make sure the unit system is consistent with the one used in these K files.
The External Model system needs to be connected to the Model cell. See attached picture below.
Please be aware that not all keywords can be read by External Model system. If Explicit Dynamics system cannot read the K files from External Model system, you may use Static Structural analysis system to transfer the model from External Model system to Explicit Dynamics system.

July 2, 2021 at 5:21 pmrybask1Subscriber.I'm having the same issue.
ramgopisetti , could you be a bit more specific with what needs to be modified in LS Prepost? Am I limited to only using the 10 "LS Dyna External Model" Materials shown in Engineering Data? Does the mesh have to be entirely recreated using a different element type?
The geometry and mesh are not being recognized by ANSYS, which I think is the most important issue. The materials in the other models I have imported into ANSYS from LS Dyna are automatically switched to Structural Steel (default material). If you have a bit more information on how to make the .*k file import smoothly into Workbench, that would be very useful.
.February 21, 2023 at 2:18 pmLuisa HornungSubscriberHave you managed to do this by now? I want to work also with LS-DYNA and the THUMS Model, but I cant find any instructions how to import the THUMS into LS-DYNA.
