How to calculate/simulate the inductance of a strcuture?

Hi, I am wondering how to calculate/simulate the inductance of a structure such as a cuboid. Could anyone help me?

I am trying to simulate the inductance of structures and I want to start with a wire shape or a cuboid (because their inductance can be calculated by hand so I can check if the simulation is correct and I plan to do more complex structures that cannot be easily calculated manually.)

Previously I was able to simulate temperature, voltage, and resistance of structures by using Mechanical following the workbench workflow. I know inductance is much more complex but I am wondering if there is also a way to do it?

      Hi DmArcher

I could not understand how cuboid can have inductance. But for helix shapes or cylinders I assign them a coil terminal and add this coil terminal to a winding. After that I create an matrix. After running the simulation I can easily see the inductance for these geometric shapes. By the way I only used ansys maxwell and don't know a lot of information for others

Hi Serdar, thank you so much for your reply.

For the cuboid shape, I was thinking about trace on the PCB board. So if we take part of this trace (wire), it would be similar to a cylinder.

And thank you for the suggestion of using Maxwell. I'll look into it. I found some tutorials of Maxwell but they are 9 years old.

      Hi DmArcher

there is a youtube channel named Kamyar K. it has a detailed tutorial series about Ansys maxwell. Even though they are 6 yeas old I did not relaize any differences between that version and today's version. Also when you open Ansys maxwell under the help tab there are some pdf files which constains planty of information about ansys maxwell and examples.

      good luck,

You can use Q3D. There is a buit-in example in AEDT in File > Open Examples > Q3D Extractor > via_gsg.aedt
