How to apply torsion loading using workbench

      Good evening

1- I have a  thick cylinder, I want to apply torsional loading for it by the use of remote point on one end and the other end will be fix . In the loading I didn't find related load, shall I use moment in the axial direction or there is something else I have to do ?

2-  How can I judge on the mesh ? I read about skewness, but when I check it its about 0.9938 for the max value, which considered too high. I do analysis for surface cracks so the type of the elements should be tetrahedrons., could you please suggest me a method to decrease the skewness or improve the mesh at all .

Thanks in advance to all of you

You can apply a moment to the flat face at the end of the tube directly. You don't need a remote displacement to apply a moment.

The reason you might want a remote displacement is to simulate a bearing on the end that has the moment applied, but remote displacement is not the only way to simulate a bearing.

Looking at your mesh, it seems coarse and you should try a mesh method of sweep and apply a mapped mesh to the flat face so you can assign the number of divisions through the thickness, such as 3 or 4 elements. This will create hex elements instead of tet elements.

      Thanks for your reply ..

1- For the remote point which I want to use, I'm trying to do the same which has been done in the literature. The majority of the researchers use this method. According to the results which I have made for both ( directly applied the load on the flat end or the on remote point), I got the same results for the stress intensity factor ( the criterion I want to find). So, I can understand that I can use moment directly ( in the axial direction) in stead of torsion or it will represents Torsion .

2- For the mesh, I did according to the very rare videos on such kind of analysis (fracture analysis due to cracks), I tried to do refinement or find a way to refine the mesh but I could not.  I have no idea about sweep method, I will try to find some explanation on.

      Thanks again for your help
