Ansys Employeedamping is used to provide an energy-dissipation mechanism to dynamic loads in linear analysis without accounting for the nonlinear material behavior. Explicit STR and Autodyn is a nonlinear analysis program and takes nonlinear material behavior into account automatically. Thus it doesn't need to use Alpha or Beta damping. User just adds the material nonlinearity such as plasticity failure or damage directly to the materials in Engineering Data. By doing this the nonlinear material deformation will absorb the energy from external loading and thus it will make the computer simulation more physical. The damping controls under Analysis Settings in Explicit Dynamics system are all artificial or numerical. They are used to either smear the shock wave from a discontinuity to the continuous in stress and velocity across several elements or used as critical damping to damp the dynamic oscillations of the material for static equilibrium analysis.n
