How to achieve similar Force vs Displacement

      I am working on a screw connection between two plates and the material properties that I have used is presented in the following picture for the Steel plate and the screw:

      In figure 6 it looks like some material damage model is included (you can see that elements don't just stretch as the plates separate, but they are torn away from each other or eroded away). This will be needed in your model, along with a plasticity model. Your mesh is also far to coarse to accurately model the large stress gradients around the hole. Finally, I think a static structural analysis will struggle to converge with this problem. Consider using an explicit analysis instead.
      I don't have much experience with simulations like this, just trying my best to point you in the right direction. I don't think recreating those results will be easy, as there are a lot of effects occurring that need to be captured by your model.

      I agree with that you should use Explicit Dynamics to simulate the hole tearing.
      Here is a 2D version I did using Explicit Dynamics. When elements are removed from the model, that is called Erosion.
