How do I install and license Fluids and Structures on Linux?

      Hello,

      I'm trying to install the "Fluids and Structures" Linux-package (Current Release - 2023 R1) on CentOS 7. I downloaded the .tgz archive (FLUIDSTRUCTURES_2023R1_LINX64.tgz) from the "Downloads" section of the customer portal. On my CentOS 7 machine, I unpacked the archive and ran sudo ./INSTALL -silent. The installaion completed with some errors that were saved in /usr/ansys_inc. Here are the contents of my install.err, install_licconfig.log and install.log files:

      install.err:

      My questions are:

      1. What does the "unknown error" in install.err mean and why am I getting it?
      2. How do I license my software? At no point during the installaion was I asked to specify my licensing server. My Ansys License Manager is running on a seperate Windows Server machine.

      Thank you and best regards.

      Please check that ALL prerequisites are installed:
      https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/secured?eturnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v232/en/installation/unix_platform_libraries.html

      The license specification may not be done if an earlier version is installed already.
      Also, the errors you received means the install did not complete correctly. That may have prevented the licensing configurarion to complete.

      Hello, I installed all the prerequisites on a fresh CentOS und re-ran sudo ./INSTALL -silent. Here's the output after it's done extracting:

      What to do now? Has the the installation completed successsfully? If so, how can I license the product considering my licensing manager is running on a seperate Windows Server?

    • George Karnos
      Ansys Employee

      When running a -silent installation, you must specify the license server by using:

      -licserverinfo
      See installation Guide:
      https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v232/en/installation/installation_set_crq_5qj_r5.html

      Since it is already installed, you can manually specify the Server by creating an ansyslmd.ini file under the /usr/ansys_inc/shared_files/licensing/ directory.
      contents of the file will be:
      SERVER=1055@servername
      ANSYSLI_SERVERS=2325@servername
      (Where servername is the hostname of the license server)

      Is there a way to put the license file in the home directory and not in /usr/ansys_inc/shared_files/licensing/? We'd like to install Ansys on a HPC-Cluster and make the license available only to some users, not globally. How can this be done?

    • George Karnos
      Ansys Employee

      There is no way to insert it to the home directory.

      Once the license server specification is done, it looks to the server for license checkout.

      To limit who is allowed to use the licenses, you would implement a Flexnet Options file.
      see the Felxnet Admin Guide for Option file configuration:
      "C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\licensing\licadmin\docu\fnp_LicAdmin.pdf"
