SubscriberCurrently I am using following contact settings:nType : FrictionalnFriction Coefficient : 0.18nFormulation : Augmented LagrangenDetection method: On Gauss PointnUpdate Stiffness: Each IterationnInterface Treatment: Add Offset, Ramped EffectsnI am using Static structural but I have tried Transient structural as well with following settings, nFixed support for the plate at all sides.nRemote displacement of 10mm in upward direction (+Y axis) for the ribs while 0 mm in all other DOFsnThe ribs are penetrating, but are going through clear without deflecting themselves through the slot hence the force I am getting is miniscule in the range of 1.5e-15 N.nWhat am I doing wrong? Please help.nnFebruary 27, 2021 at 9:57 pmpeteroznewman
SubscribernThe plug looks like it has 3 planes of symmetry. I suggest you go back to a geometry editor such as SpaceClaim. Create three planes halfway between each rib. Slice the solid body using the three planes and delete 2/3 of the solid so you have only 1 rib. Do the same with the plate with the hole in it. Finally move the rib until it is tangent to the blend on the edge of the hole. You don't need any gap at the beginning.nOpen Mechanical with the 1/3 solid rib. Make two coordinate systems. Each coordinate system must have an axis normal to a cut plane. Apply a displacement on each face and set the displacement to be 0 on the axis that is normal to the face, and Free on the other two coordinate directions. Those two Displacement BCs allow only axial motion. Do not use a Force. Add one more Displacement BC to move the bottom 1/3 face to advance the one rib into the 1/3 hole leaving the other two components Free. Once the system solves, insert a Probe, Reaction Force on that last Displacement BC. Multiply the force by 3 to get the result for the 3 rib plug.nInsert a Contact Tool under the Connections folder to see that the contact is closed, or the size of the gap if it is not closed.nUnder Analysis Settings, turn on Large Deflection. Turn on Auto Time Stepping. Set the Initial and Minimum Substeps to 100, and the Maximum Substeps to 1000.nClick on the Solution Information folder and type 3 into the Newton-Raphson Residual plots in case you fail to converge.nFebruary 27, 2021 at 11:43 pmpeteroznewman
SubscriberWhen you mesh the rib, make sure there are at least 3 quadratic elements through the thickness of the rib.nMarch 1, 2021 at 6:47 pmSaurabhG
SubscriberThankyou for your help. Appreciate it. nViewing 4 reply threads- The topic ‘How can I find the force required to penetrate the rib into a slotted plate?’ is closed to new replies.
