Forte | Tutorial 5 | Run Error

      Hi there,

I hope you can help me. I am new to Forte.

I've downloaded tutorial 5, Port-Injected Spark Ignition Engine , files. I understand the tutorial is ready for simulation. Is it? I've opened SIENgine_PortInjected_AMG_TUtorial.ftsim file and selected run under Run Simulation by pressing the Green Start button. Soon after I've received an error message. Please see attached log.txt.

In summary, the errors are: Exhaust Valve 1 is outside tolerance of 0.002 & Exhaust Valve 2 is outside tolerance of 0.002 therefore, Valve seating check reported problems, cannot prepare run.

Additionally, I get another error saying cannot run because neither ...Nominal un_mpi.bat nor ...Nominal un.bat exists.

After I Disable Check Valve Seating Before Starting Run then I can run the simulation, but should it take over 6h to run?

How can I monitor what is happening?

Thank you very much. I am new :) But, optimistic. :)

      Update!!!
Once I've selected 'Disable Check Valve Seating Before Starting Run' and run the simulation I've noticed another error in the Monitoring Window.
I think this explains why I've had a simulation running over night and not received any results.
      Please see attached txt file.
I am sending the logs to support team. I'm sure there is a solution.
      Thank you.

      Hello,
      Couple of questions :
      Which version are you using?
Did you follow the steps in the tutorial right from the beginning, from loading the geometry?
See the time estimate for this tutorial : 5.1.3. Time Estimate (ansys.com)
Ansys employees cannot download any files. Please consider inserting an image instead. Thanks!

Hello RK, Thank you for the reply. I will do my best to show you my steps. I've opened Ansys Forte 2021 R1 Launcher. Selected Simulate (FS). Once Forte opened up, I went to Help>Tutorials>5. Port-Injected Spark Ignition Engine> 5.1.1. Files Used in This Tutorial and downloaded the files. The reason why I did not go through the tutorial is because I understood the .ftsim file was completed tutorial and its ready for simulation.

I am aware that this is where I might have gone wrong. For my university project I am comparing Ansys results with MATLAB. And, I wanted to see what results Ansys produces. I did aim to save time. But, it would have been quicker by now to go through the whole tutorial. As I write this, I am 70% through the tutorial and will let you know what I get. So, back to the steps. Back in Forte, I’ve Opened the SIEngine_PortInjected_AMG_Tutorial.ftsim file. And, selected Yes for Project Preservation.
      image.png
Afterwards, I’ve Generated Mesh to see what it would look like and went on Run Simulation.   Under Run Simulation I pressed the Green Play button to start the simulation and received the following message, below.

After that I went to Run Settings and deselected Check Valve Seating Before Starting Run.
      image.png
After that, I went back to Run Simulation and pressed the Green Play button again. This action made me think that the simulation has started and everything is okay. But, after all night of running simulation I received no results.

That’s when I opened Forte Monitoring. Selected Nominal under Select Runs to Display and found out that the simulation was “Killed”.

Are you able to help?   Where did I go wrong?   Thank you. Kind Regards, Arturas

      Hello Ansys,
I have repeated the steps mentioned above with other tutorials and some work perfectly. I got the results as shown in the tutorial, but other tutorials also had different errors come up.
Are you able to help me?
The Ansys support team tells me I should ask the questions in the forum. But, do you see my posts? Its been 6 days now.
      Thank you.
      Kind Regards Arturas

      Hello Arturas,
Yes, we do see your posts.
Are you getting the MPI deadlock errors in all the tutorial simulations?

How many cores are you using to run the simulation?

Hello RK Are you getting the MPI deadlock errors in all the tutorial simulations? No
How many cores are you using to run the simulation? I think 8 I saw somewhere, but really not sure. I've tried running it on 2 computers and got the same problem. My profesor tried it on his, and he got the same errors.
Can you confirm if the tutorial files are ready for simulation or more user input is required?
Plus, the error (in red) below does not mention anything about perfomance.
To me it looks like the tutorial needs updating, as there are; no intersections found, valve seating check is reporting problem and .bat files dont exist.

      Thank you RK.

Thanks Arturas! Did you get any error message regarding the valve seating?

Hello RK Only what's shown, below.
Side question RK, are you able to see my pasted snapshot on the replies? I know you can not open links or attachments.
I think it would be great if someone internally could open Tutorial 5 and try to run it. Let me know if it works for you.
      Thank you, RK.
