Fluent Pressure Outlet Boundary Condition

Fluent version 18+ gives us more options for specifying pressure outlet. What is the difference between Total Pressure and Static Pressure outlet boundary condition? Shouldn't the pressure outlet always be static? Can you please explain the difference and also what option fluent 17 and below use?

Hi, you are looking here at the "backflow" pressure. This is the pressure specified when you have backflow, i.e. inflow at the outlet. By using Total Pressure you will automatically have a static pressure which is smaller than the Gauge pressure, as Ptot=P+Pdyn,  hence promoting the flow out of the domain instead of inflow.

See section 6.3.9.1.3 in the documentation for details.
