Find or Create New Material

Hi, I started using Ansys not so long ago for some projects, I was looking for the material Hot-Rolled, Low-Carbon Sheet Steel but I'm not sure if the program has it by default, If I would have to make it or if it can be downloaded and add it to the material library.

      Hi Bruno,

Check the materials available under the Nonlinear Materials section from the Engineering Data Sources tab (screenshot below) in Engineering Data of Ansys Workbench. You can also look up the properties of your material online (such as the hardening or stress-strain curve, and implement them into Workbench using Plasticity models). Alternatively, you can perform characterization experiments on your material to obtain its behavior.

Hi Bruno, If you have access to Granta software (EduPack/Selector or Granta MI), you might be able to find datasheets that match your needs. You can then export or connect the Granta database to your Workbench workflow and use it to provide the necessary material inputs for your FE modeling. I checked and yes we have hot rolled low carbon steels data in JAHM or MaterialUniverse databases. For more information: https://www.ansys.com/products/materials/materials-data-library

Another solution, by creating your own material, if you have data from the literature or from experiments: https://innovationspace.ansys.com/courses/courses/high-resolution-fe-model-of-bone/lessons/physics-setup-lesson-5-14/topic/1-create-material/
