SubscriberHello,
I have an issue with the export of step files from SpaceClaim 2025R2 to step.
When I import the step file into Bambu Studio v2.2.1.60 the step file is not valid.
If I export to stp from 2024R2 there is no issue.
I have added sample of the same cube of 20x20x20 R2 all over in attachment.
I can see we used to export using the Spatial Interop libraries and this has changed to the Hoops libraries.
The way the files are created looks different. Is there anyway to get the "old" export back? Because now I can't use my stp export anylonger or I need to stay at 2024R2.
Regards,
Dimitri

SubscriberHello Dimitri,
Thanks for providing the STEP files. I did some testing with them.
Both import into SpaceClaim 2025 R2, but the export from 2025 R2 imports under a Design1 component name with a second empty Design1 component name, which I assume does not match the document it was exported from and could be considered a minor bug. The export from 2024 R2 imports into SpaceClaim with just the single solid body and no components. This probably matches the document it was exported from and is the correct result.
Both import into FreeCAD 1.0 with a similar result to SpaceClaim where there is a component above the solid body in the 2025 R2 export but no component in the 2024 R2 export.
Both import into OnShape. The export from 2024 R2 imports as a solid body Part file while the export from 2025 R2 imports as a surface body and requires the Enclose operation in OnShape to change it to a solid body Part file.
I suggest you also provide these STEP files to Technical Support at Bambu Studio so they can improve their STEP import code to work with these files.
I also see the STEP export from SpaceClaim 2025 R2 has some defects that should be addressed.
In the meantime, try OnShape or FreeCAD as a STEP file “washing machine” to launder the STEP files exported from SpaceClaim 2025 R2 and maybe Bambu Studio will find those valid while waiting for some improvements from any of the vendors, but I expect your best bet is to stay with SpaceClaim 2024 R2 for now.
Good luck!
